Ab Excercises

It used to be that if you wanted to tone your abs, you did sit ups. Over the years, though, a whole bunch of new ab excercises have been popularized.

On the most basic level, sit ups still work great. You can get a six pack doing nothing but sit ups and they're completely free.

If you want to get even more from sit ups, then you can do them on an incline (where your feet are higher than your head). You can buy sit up benches specifically for this. But I wouldn't advise spending too much money just to do sit ups.

If you want to work your abs more thorougly, then you can add crunches to the routine. Unlike sit ups, you don't actually sit all the way up with crunches. You just lift your head a little bit off the ground, enough to tighten your abs. To maximize the benefits of crunches, you can lift one of your knees toward your head with each crunch, alternating a different knee each time. You'll get more work on the sides of your abs this way.

And crunches are free too. Abs aren't hard to tone up. But you have to make yourself do it.
