The Totalgym has turned into a very popular product, and they've continued to make more extensive and more expensive models.
I think the Totalgym 1000 may have been the first model. It was very basic and maybe not as sturdy as some of the newer models, but it did provide some benefits if you were just looking to tone your muscles. It was probably about $400 at the time, but you can get one for about $100 now if you can find them (or similar older models).
Now there are several more models available, but most still work on the same principle - they use your own body weight as the resistance for the workout. This is the real limiting factor for the Totalgym. You can't get a very intense workout from that.
However, they now have at least one model that increases resistance using a motor. However, they also have a sticker price of over $4000 on it. For that amount of money you could probably get a machine that does a lot more.
