Fartleck training is intended to increase speed and stamina, usually for runners. There are a number of variations on the fartleck method, but the basic idea is the same for all of them.

In essence, you jog for a set period of time (after warming up), perhaps 2 minutes, and then you sprint (or run hard) for some period of time, maybe 1 minute or 30 seconds. Then you jog again to recuperate, and sprint again. You repeat the process several times. If your intervals are long, you would do fewer repetitions than if the intervals were short.
